WELCOME TO OPAC SEARCH:
INSTRUCTION FOR SEARCHING THE ON-LINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGUE
(OPAC)


Opening “On – Line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)”.

  •     Double Click on the “OPAC” shortcut from the computer desktop.
  •     Select any one of the toolbar icon according to your search.

1. Simple Search :

  •     Click on the simple search icon.
  •     Enter word(s) to be searched with catalogue / field type (Author, Title, Subject etc.).
  •     Click on search button.      

2. Advance Search :

  •     Click on the Advance search icon.
  •     Enter word(s) to be searched with catalogue/fields (Author, Title, Subject etc.) with operators ‘OR’, ‘AND’, and ‘AND NOT’ between keywords.
  •     Click on search button.

3. Additional Search :

  •     Click on Additional Search icon.
  •     Enter word(s) to be searched with various searchable fields with an ‘AND’ operator.
  •     Click on search button.

4. Browsing (Catalogue) :

  •     Click on the browse (catalogue) icon.
  •     Choose any one of the following from the combo box to see the corresponding details :

                       Author
                       Title
                       Classified
                       Subject
                       Place
                       Publisher

  •     Type the Match you want to know about.
  •     Click on search button.

5. Accession Number :

  •     Click on Accession Number icon.
  •     Type the Accession number and click on search.

6. ISBN Number :

  •     Click on ISBN Number icon.
  •     Type the ISBN number and click on search.

7. Journals Search :

  •     Click on Journals search icon.
  •     Type the keywords of the journals you want to see.
  •     Click on the particular journal to view the details.
Note:
  1.  The Use of Floppy, CD, Pen Drive etc. are strictly prohibited.
  2. The Machine is dedicated to the service of ‘Library’ and hence should be used only for working on “OPAC (On – Line Public Access Catalogue)”.

 It is an optional module and provides an advanced GUI interface to enable searching of the Library database through Web Browser having all the features of OPAC.

Open WEB OPAC:

Open the Internet Explorer and type url 
http://192.168.17.12:8380/opac/ (Click Here) on the address bar. 

SEARCHING

1. BROWSE

The data fields are:
         
          Catalogue: Select from the combo box either author, title, classified, subject, place or publisher.

          Enter beginning character (s): Type the Match you want to know about.

          The screen displays the author, title and call number, if ‘Author’ is selected as the catalogue to be searched on. The details of a selected title are also displayed.

2. ACCESSION NUMBER

          Click on Accession Number icon.
          Type the ISBN Number which you want to know about.

3. ISBN NUMBER

          Click on ISBN Number icon.
          Type the ISBN Number which you want to know about.


OPAC in LibSys provides more different kinds of searches:
    

SIMPLE SEARCH

The fields to be entered are:

          Enter word (s) or phrase: Give the word (s) or phrase on the basis of which the search is to be made.
          Connector: Select from the combo box the connector required between the search words.
          Database: Select from the combo box the database on which the search is to be made.
          Field: Select from the combo box the database on which the search is to be made.  

ADVANCE SEARCH

This function helps in making an advance search. The data fields are:

          Enter word (s) or phrase: Give the word (s) or phrase on the basis of which the search is to be made.
          Connector: Select from the combo box the connector required between the search words.
          Database: Select from the combo box the database on which the search is to be made.
          Field: Select from the combo box the database on which the search is to be made.


ADDITIONAL SEARCH

This function helps in making an additional search. The data fields are:

          Database: Select from the combo box the database on which the search is to be made.
          Field: Enter the words or phrase in each of the search fields.
